About the Artist

Paul A. Lanquist, known internationally by his "PAL" distinctive logo, is a Northwest artist that lives near Mount Rainier, Washington with his wife Leslie. Paul is a dedicated outdoor enthusiast and has been a commercial artist and illustrator for over 25 years. He has worked for a variety of companies such as Fred Meyer, Danner Boots, GI Joes, Whole Foods, Luhr Jensen, and Princess Cruise Lines. The art series represents a unique design and style that was created exclusively for Art of Place.
Paul's style captures the rugged, quaint, friendly, and dignified personality of life in
the United States and Canada. Paul believes that part of being a good illustrator is learning to build from past experience and to study the work of other American illustrators. Through the years Paul has gravitated to the work of illustrators from the 1920's, 1930's, and 1940's that use color and design to communicate their ideas in a straightforward way. The natural beauty of the United States and Canada is another important influence in Paul's work. By combining the nostalgic look and feel of the past with the spectacular scenery of the world, Paul has created destination and travel art that captures the beauty and lifestyle of these unique areas.
